Web Site Management / Design FAQs

How can I maintain my site?

Any changes can be made to your site if you or someone in your company has the skills to make HTML edits and can FTP files to and from the site. (Contact support if you need the FTP codes to your site.)

We also support Microsoft Frontpage on our Unix and NT servers. This low-cost page editing program allows you to build and manage your site without any knowledge of HTML code. We have many non-technical customers who have been successful in managing their sites using this program. Contact support if you would like Frontpage extensions setup on your hosting account to allow you to use this program.

How much would it cost to make some changes and updates to my site?

Our standard hourly rate for HTML design and edits is $45 per hour. We have a half hour minimum charge for all site alterations. There is no specific per-page rate, all changes and additions are quoted based on the time required to complete them.

Of course as a design or hosting customer, you also have the options of either doing your own site changes or hiring an outside designer to make modifications to your site. Contact support if you need the FTP codes to your site.

How do I FTP to my site?

Warning: You can damage or erase the files of your site using FTP. Be careful!

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) requires some kind of client software to connect to your web sites's FTP server. There are many different programs to choose from. Many free trial FTP programs can be found and downloaded from the Internet (for example: shareware.com) if you search for "FTP client". Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x also has a good FTP program built into it. (Search Help for "FTP" in Internet Explorer for instructions.)

When you have some FTP software selected, you will then need 3 peices of information, your server host name, your FTP username and your FTP password. The server host name will always be the address of your website, for example, www.mycompanysite.com. Contact support if you need the FTP username and password for your site.

How can I see how many "hits" my site has received?

Every hosting account comes with a "statistics package" that is used to track visitors to your site. To access this data, use your web browser to go to your home page and then type in "/stats" after your web address. For example:

     http://www.mycompanydomain.com/stats

Unix Accounts: you will then be prompted to enter your account username and password. Contact us if you need your username and password.

NT Accounts: you will then be prompted for the "Server ID". Enter your account username here and click the button to continue. Next you'll be prompted for your username and password, enter them and click "OK". Contact us if you need your username and password.
